Making biodiesel is easier than you think

BioDiesel Is Easier than You Think

Biodiesel is a renewable resource and is environment friendly. It is produced by burning of vegetables and mixing it with diesel. The main ingredients involved in the production of biodiesel are methanol, Lye and oil.

You can also easily build your own biodiesel processor at home with just a few tips. All you need to do is to have a drum and the top, drill a hole of about 1.5 inches at the bottom of the drum, another hole a side of drum with the diameter of the pipe that you are going to attach.

Then a brass ball valve is also attached to ensure drainage and brass would also ensure long life. A steel rod, pulley and propeller is also attached which would ensure proper mixing of ingredients.

All these materials are to be attached in a proper method so the processor works efficiently. This is all you need when making your own biodiesel processor and it is also easier than you think. However, the pipe needs regular cleaning and maintenance for better work.

The ingredients that are used in the making of biodiesel are usually available in the house or at cheap rates in the market.
You would need 1 liter of vegetable oil which can be used but it is recommended to use new oil in first few productions, 200 ml of pure methanol is also needed, Lye catalyst such as potassium hydroxide, measuring beakers or cylinders, blender, HDPE container and filters to filter it, thermometer and 2 to 3 PET bottles, 1 for settling and 1 for washing.

You should remember to use all ingredients accurately and with accurate method.

The method of producing biodiesel starts from drying all the ingredients and equipments.
After this, mix methanol and lye and immediately filter it in HDPE container through the filter. Screw the cap of the container tightly after mixing methanol and lye.

In the mean while, preheat the oil to 55 degrees and pour it in the blender. Blend it slowly for about 20 minutes.
Then transfer the whole mixture to PET bottle and leave it for at least 12 hours.
After hours, the upper part of the mixture will be lighter and lower part will be darker in color, upper part is the biodiesel,
Then you can pour the mixture in the washing bottle and give it a bubble wash several times.
